About
Hi there! I am Sherman. I am a designer on a mission to build products for impact and sustainability. I am most passionate about content marketing, UI/UX design, photography—and exploring how they piece together to create meaningful stories and tangible experiences. Aside from my professional pursuits, my other interests lie in photography projects - to document and craft stories centered around heritage and culture in Singapore. My photographic practice involves stringing images for alternative media and writing on social-cultural issues of the day.
In the meantime, I am looking for opportunities that can allow me to tell better stories and create sharper designs.
Bio
Sherman Tham is a Singapore-based photographer whose main works involve visual observations of urban spaces and cityscapes. His main multimedia practice involves storytelling through photo essays, video works and musings — with a focus on cultural-religious documentation within Asia.
In 2014, Sherman was selected to participate in Objectifs' Shooting Home Youth Awards, where he clinched the Most Improved Photographer award in the Class of 2014. Subsequently, he pitched his photo series 'The Smell of Her Cigar' to the panelists from Platform.sg and was selected as one of the 50 photographers whose works were published in a photo book, This Is Singapore — in celebration of Singapore's Golden Jubilee. He was the youngest participating photographer in that project.
His works have been used in various photo exhibitions by the National Arts Council at libraries and at heartland malls. In 2018, he did a research stint with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), documenting the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, with support from the Intangible Heritage Grant by National Heritage Board (NHB).
Documentary photography lies at the heart of Sherman's works. From documentation works to personal photographic projects, he is interested in the narrative centred on humans, living spaces and the cultural flows surrounding it.
